Hi all, I've just been having a go at manipulating an image in photoshop and am struggling to get a good result. The original picture is of a tree in autumn with a grey sky in the upper third. It's a complex selection but that part seemed to work OK. I was trying to replace the sky but because of 'fringing' around the tree/leaves when a new sky is brought in it's not convincing. The 'refine edges' control in photoshop cs3, has numerous options and I'd be grateful if someone could suggest some appropriate settings to work around. I had a look at the tutorial on the topic - which is great - but I think it's for an earlier or later version of photoshop because it refers to contracting the selection by pixels and the control is set to percent. I've tried a couple of different feathering amounts and several contractions but none seem to deliver the goods. In actual fact, the particular image I'm playing with isn't that good IMO but it would be helpful for me to get an understanding of the appropriate settings for future reference. TIA Dave
Hi James, Thanks for the response. I've already had a look at that tutorial (and those on layers etc.) that cover the topics. I've been able to do sky replacements quite successfully before but this one just doesn't seem to work well. Maybe it's just too complex. I'm going out with the camera today, so I'll get a few trees and try with them. Dave
